J.K. AMALOU is an alumnus of the prestigious London Film School. He has worked as a consultant on hundreds of scripts for companies like Canal Plus, Polygram Classics, Samuel Goldwyn Productions, European Script Fund, MEDIA Programme.

 

He also produced a number of short films, music videos and documentaries for Channel 4 and broadcasters throughout Europe.  His biggest success as a producer was “La Belle Epoque”, a £8 million drama written by Francois Truffaut and starring Kristin Scott-Thomas.  At the same time, he pursued his writing career, turning out screenplays for cult director Harry Kumel, Juan-Luis Bunuel, George Sluizer.

 

J.K. directed and produced “Hard Men”, a low-budget gangster comedy, which went on to become the “Hottest Film At Mifed” (Screen International, November 1996) and sold in over 40 countries.  Fox Searchlight bought the film in the US.  After its UK theatrical release, it reached number 8 in the video charts. Since then, it has reached cult status according to Wikipedia.

 

J.K. has also developed various projects in the U.S. for studios like Fox, Disney, Touchstone with such big names as Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, Arnon Milchan, Diane Keaton, Mark Wahlberg, etc.  At present, J.K. has just completed “The Man Who Would Be Queen”, as a writer, producer and director, a dark comedy about the English middle-classes. It has just been selected for London UK Film Focus 2007.  He is also developing a number of projects for Silverleaf Pictures, a new UK production company.
